Always the backbone of bellydance in Asheville, Baraka Mundi & friends are pushing the envelope of their art, building momentum in the unexplored genre of Bellydance Theater. They have turned a taste for world fusion into a unique multi-media experience, combining dance, theater, live music and ceremony, for kids of all ages.
CasaNia is a beautiful body/mind/spirit studio with a wide range of classes and workshops in Nia (neuro-muscular-integrative activity - one of the earliest fusion fitness forms - dance, martial, and healing arts. It is located on a quiet cul-de-sac just off Mass. Ave. in Porter Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Ours is a spacious converted artists' loft with cathedral ceilings and skylights, 810 square feet of sprung wood floor, a changing room, bathroom with shower, in-studio temperature control (heat and air conditioning) and some on-site parking.

Sonya, from Chicago IL, is a full-time Oriental dance instructor, performer and choreographer who has mentored under Jasmin Jahal since 1996. Recently named Golden Navel Champion in Chicago’s first open-call belly dance competition, Sonya strives to elevate the public’s perception of this art form, promoting the dance with beauty, dignity & grace. As a featured dancer in 3 weekly venues, she captivates her audience with her skills of improv, although prefers the disciplines of choreography for the theater stage. Sonya teaches beginning, intermediate & advanced level students in 6 weekly classes as well as bi-monthly workshops, annually judges the MEDINA competition, hosts monthly dance hafla’s and travels the US furthering her education while also performing & teaching her style of Raks Sharki.
I perform and teach hooping with colorful handmade hoops. I handcraft my hoops with the intention that they bring joy, health and transformation to those who dance with them. My dance is athletic, graceful and powerful: through it I touch the Source and seek to bring that to my audience.
