As an earth artist, and teacher I serve the needs of my students and the great mother, realizing that we all need to be validated and blessed in such a negative culture. As an Ecopsychologist and writer, I include our relationship to the Earth around us as very significant in our mental and physical health. I also look at the psychosis of our culture as impactful in how we feel about ourselves and our world. I teach workshops in connecting with the earth by using the cob[earth] building process. Playing in the mud can be a serious and playful way of healing and becoming whole. We must all live and love as if the whole world mattered!"the world is mud lucious and puddle wonderful"eecummings
Cultural immersion is about being placed in a unique setting and being invited to feel the influences of the history, people, and their land. Orkney,Scotland is a collection of varied islands that hosts the widest of skies and the broadest of fields. By numerous intimate encounters with people and the land, you will be able to uncover the artist within. Any level of art experience will flourish as you learn a very unique printmaking process, watercolor white-line woodprint. This technique began as "The Provincetown Print." We will dance, paint and stand at the large stone circles, The Ring Of Brodgar and The Stones Of Stenness, and creep along the entrance to MaesHowe. All of these sites are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Sometimes, one needs to leave the familiar in order to discover what is within you all along.

I am a papermaker, printmaker and book artist. I make paper from many natural fibers that I collect from my garden and throughout the county. The paper is used in my books (blank journals, primarily) notecards, and sculptures. I work in a variety of print mediums including monotypes, wood cuts, digital photo computer transfers, and others. All my books are unique, with no two exactly alike. I create paste papers and suminagashi for use on my covers and incorporate local fauna such as doqwood leaf impressions in my paste papers.
Our first CD, "the split tree recordings: the waltzes" was recorded, designed and produced in 1999-2000 by one of Split Tree's founding artists, composer/guitarist/vocalist Walter Parks of New York City. He recorded most pieces live, some improvised, with dancers dancing in the STF studio. "Lovely music," says Prof. Richard Powers of Stanford University's dance division. A renowned social dance historian and teacher, Powers provided strong leadership and encouragement that starting in 1996 first made Split Tree's ambience and fine floor known nationwide for his popular waltz balls, workshops and other dance weekends.
