Ana Franklin
Ana teaches the art and science of Yoga in the tradition of Patanjali. True yoga practice is always appropriate to the present circumstances of the person practicing. It is excellent for stress reduction, rejuvenation, and strengthening of the whole body and calming and focusing to the mind. One can apply the eight limbs of yoga according to personal needs, or choose to work with only one or two limbs. We can use yoga to help ourselves in many areas of our lives. Regular, frequent practice of yoga enhances and promotes the body's natural process of healing. As we learn to use yoga's breathing methods, we help the mind and the body to work harmoniously, as nature intended, and allow healing to happen. Movement, postures, breathing technique, chanting and other systems are all employed in a way that is appropriate for the individual. Ana's classes in the Lawrence and Manhattan, KS area are limited in size, so students can enjoy more personal attention. Instruction is available for all levels, including pregnancy, and post-partum and other special needs. Ana aims to inspire as many as possible to create their own regular yoga practice, thereby finding harmony for themselves and becoming promoters of a happy, healthy, peaceful world. Private lessons are available in addition to regular class time, and are recommended for those with special considerations or medical conditions. Those with medical conditiions are asked to check with their physician before attending classes.

Andrea Mikana-Pinkham
WHAT SOME OF OUR PAST TRAVELERS

HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THEIR JOURNEY WITH BMSJ:

“I had a totally awesome time on the BMSJ Sacred Journey to EGYPT. Andrea, our Ceremonialist, led us through many powerful ceremonies. As our Tour Director she was also very well informed about the different sacred sites we visited." P. Lehman - NM

The Mind Body Spirit Sacred Journey to SEDONA was transforming. The environment naturally facilitates healing, and with Andrea and Mark Pinkham with you to support and guide with their caring and knowledge, change can be limitless!

L. Petrulli - Belmont, MA

“Re my recent BMSJ Sacred Journey to ENGLAND: I love traveling with Andrea and Mark and Body Mind Spirit Journeys. They take care of me so well! Everything is so well organized. And we have time for our meditations and ceremonies at the sacred sites. This is the most important part of the trip for me, so I really appreciate that! Stonehenge was fantastic! I had more past life memories than I could process! “

D. Balch - CA

“On our Sacred Journey to PERU Pepe and Andrea were a phenomenal team! They took excellent care of each group member, as well as the group in general. And they were most helpful at explaining the historical and sacred significance, and helping us to connect with the powerful energies of each of the places we visited.”

Jack of the Wood
Welcome to Jack of the Wood, a cozy, Celtic style pub located in downtown Asheville, North Carolina. Handcrafted English style ales are brewed at our nearby brewing facility and served fresh daily. On a typical evening at Jack's you will find many of the patrons gathered around the black walnut bar or at long tavern tables, engaged in conversation through which the taboo subjects of art, religion and politics are heavily woven. Others play darts or scan the papers while sipping pints of ale or munching on a plate of fish and chips.

When the local musicians are fiddling away on Irish reels or picking some olde time mountain music in the corner with the wooden shutters closed against the night, you can blink your eyes and imagine yourself in the Celtic Isles or Colonial America. The small but varied menu will keep your hunger pangs at bay with its simple traditional favorites and daily special. A wonderful bunch of locals consider Jack their local pub, but are not opposed to sharing. Oh, by the way, we have a very nice selection of single malts. So drop by and say "hi", and remember, bring plenty of conversation

Pilgrimage Tours to Nepal
Pilgrimage Tours to Kathmandu Valley with Yana Womack, Ph.D.

Known as the abode of gods and goddesses, Kathmandu is a magical place where elements of Buddhism, Hinduism, tantrism, and animism continue to harmoniously coexist. While on pilgrimage, we visit ancient shrines and temples dedicated to the worship of the Buddha, Vajrayogini (Queen of the dakinis or 'skydancers'), Tara, Sarasvati, Shiva, Parvati, Durga, Kali and Laksmi. We witness rituals to the Mother goddess Durga during Dasain, the most vibrant festival in Nepal where masked dances and processions enliven the atmosphere with shakti, (female power); We visit with, and receive blessings from Kusali Devi of Kathmandu, a living manifestation of the goddess Hariti, and attend teachings by renowned Tibetan Buddhist master Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche. A tour of the beautiful Kopan Monastery and a visit to medieval villages to explore the making of exquisite statues and thangkas are included in our itinerary. We receive lessons in sacred dance and sound healing (Tibetan singing bowls) and enjoy a private mountain retreat for personal meditation and hiking, complete with full views of the breathtaking, pristine Himalayan peaks.

Tour includes: deluxe hotel accommodations, full breakfasts, tours and entrance fees, lectures by guides and local experts, transportation per itinerary, mountain retreat, sacred dance instruction by master dancer in traditional Newari dance, Tibetan singing bowl lesson by master sound healer, and farewell dinner.

The tours I offer are both cultural adventures and spiritual pilgrimages. They are designed for those interested in learning about the art, culture, folkloric and spiritual practices in Nepal, and for participants who want to begin, or expand and deepen their spiritual practices in an atmosphere imbued with sacred imagery.

Sedona Vortex Tours
In Sedona we have the gift of 10 to 15 vortexes within a five-to-ten mile radius. A vortex is a place of concentrated energy that people can sense. It is usually a result of positioning: Where two or more energy meridians, called "ley lines," intersect on the earth's grid. Many of the sacred temples and cathedrals around the world are built on these natural earth energy centers. During our 20 years in existence we have served thousands of people from all over the world to open up their hearts and souls to the healing and empowering energies. Nowhere in the world is there such a concentration of power, beauty and grandeur. Sedona is the place where artists, shamans, visionaries and spiritual sages have come for eons of time to inspire and be inspired. Be clear on your intentions while visiting these red rock wonders and allow the magic to transform you on your next steps as you travel your spiritual path.

The Orange Peel
The History of The Orange Peel

The building on the corner of Biltmore and Hilliard Avenue holds many fond memories for the people of Asheville. From 1950 to 1962, Skateland Rollerdome was the place to be on Saturday night and hosted many birthday parties for children of Asheville. The downtown skating rink proved to be the perfect place for kids to have fun while moms and dads shopped in the department stores that once dominated the downtown landscape. Later, the building housed a series of R & B and soul clubs. Coincidentally, most of those clubs had colors in their names: jade, emerald, and orange. The Orange Peel was the best known of these establishments and had a reputation throughout Western North Carolina as the hottest nightclub around. Artists such as The Commodores and The Bar-Kays appeared on the carpeted, three-tiered stage, and when live music was not available, recorded disco and funk blared from the elevated DJ booth, which featured DJs from one of the few black owned radio stations in the country, WBMU-FM. The Orange Peel was the last club to occupy the location before it became vacant for many years. After a stint as an auto parts warehouse, The Orange Peel was reborn, thanks to Julian Price’s downtown redevelopment company, Public Interest Projects.

Over the last three years, The Orange Peel Social Aid and Pleasure Club has become recognized as one of the best live music venues in the nation. Featured and highlighted in USA Today, Travel and Leisure Magazine, Southern Living Magazine, Turner South Cable Network, Rolling Stones Magazine, and in a number of regional and national newspapers and magazines, the club is known for presenting up and coming new talent as well as showcasing legendary performers. Everyone from Bob Dylan to Ziggy Marley and from Ween to Wilco have performed to sold-out houses at The Orange Peel.

In New Orleans, “Social Aid and Pleasure Club” describes organizations that provide care, comfort, entertainment and support to its membership. The Orange Peel has a mission to do all of that and more for the community of Western North Carolina. By hosting a number of benefits, galas, birthday parties, weddings, and even memorial services, 101 Biltmore Avenue has once again become a well-known address in Asheville. Ironically, The Orange Peel of the 1970’s billed itself as “The Original Orange Peel,” perhaps imagining a future for “The New and Improved Orange Peel".
