Mother's Den was designed with a birthing mother's comfort in mind. Mother's Den is nestled on almost an acre of land at the base of Sunrise Mountain. The 3000 sqare foot house has a spa like atmosphere and is certain to make you feel welcome, safe and special.

Mother's Den has all of the amenities of home and so much more. Looking around you would never guess that all of the equipment and supplies ready for any situation are neatly tucked away in the rare event they are needed. Warm, cozy, natural colors cover the walls and floors. Soft furniture will invite you to gather and share birth stories and advice.

Help yourself to the growing library. Borrow books and lend books. The best way to decrease fear of the unknown is to become educated. Knowledge is power.

On the ground floor of Mother's Den you will experience completely private prenatal visits in the office and afterwards you can mingle with other mothers in the living areas or attend scheduled classes.

Upstairs in your private, spacious birth room you canchoose to labor in the birth tub. Or,if you prefer, walk around the house, rock in the rocking chair, use the birth ball, cook in the kitchen, take a long hot shower, nap with your significant other, or watch movies. It is expected and encouraged that you see and treat Mother's Den as your home. Our goal is to make you feel safe, nurtured and cared for - the kind of environment that allows you to labor and birth freely, without inhibition or fear.

Sage Femme Birth Center (SFBC) of Kansas City is an out of hospital independent birth center whose primary objective is to promote the health and well being of child bearing families, including their unborn or newborn infants, children and community through health care,risk reduction, health promotion and disease prevention including education.

The birth center opened in April of 2005 as an outreach of Mercy and Truth Medical Missions, Inc. (MTMM). SFBC is a nonprofit organization and is a Kansas Charitable Health Care Provider of primary care services to underserved and uninsured women. It is also a member of the Johnson and Wyandotte counties Safety Net Coalition. SFBC provides health care to all women regardless of income or ability to pay. The birth center accepts most health insurance plans.

SFBC is a health facility that offers preconception counseling, annual women's health exams, family planning counseling and prescribing, health screenings and laboratory testing. For expectant women, Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM midwife) provide full scope prenatal care, consulting with our collaborating OB/GYN (obstetrician gynecologist) as needed. The birth center has a licensed massage therapist who volunteers 1 day per week, offering our moms prenatal massages. We provide a comprehensive childbirth education program which covers alternative options to promote natural childbirth. The center has 5 birthing suites including 1 waterbirth suite, each with a private bath, sitting area and kitchenette. The homelike setting allows women the comforts of homebirth with the safety of easily accessible medical resources. Sage Femme Birth Center welcomes women with a previous cesarean section who are seeking vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) on a case by case basis.

The birth center is affiliated with Providence Medical Center and Overland Park Regional Medical Center. If a hospital birth becomes necessary, our obstetrician gynecologist will provide the same natural childbirth experience as is possible in one of these two hospital settings.
