Nutritional Cleansing for Optimum HealthBy Sheri Kauhausen Author and Owner of Into Yoga We clean the lint screen in our dryer so it doesn’t malfunction. We brush our teeth so they won’t fall out. We sweep our chimney to remove the debris. We even scrub our skin in order to avoid blemishes. So why then, do so many of us forfeit the option of cleaning the impurities within our body? No matter how good we feel, we are never devoid of the pollutants that surround us. Impurities enter our body through the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat. Did you know that aspartame, an artificial sweetener, breaks down in the body to form methanol (wood alcohol) and formaldehyde (an embalming fluid used in funeral homes to delay decomposition in bodies)? It’s a known fact that our fruits and vegetables come complete with insecticides, pesticides and herbicides. Toxins such as PAH (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon) are expelled from cars, barbeques and burning wood, among other things. Chemicals, parasites and bacteria reside in our drinking and bathing water. Our soils and our foods have become nutritionally depleted, and so have our bodies. Obesity has become a North American epidemic. The Diabetes Journal states that up to 45% of our children being diagnosed with diabetes have Type 2 diabetes (a lifestyle disease), and over 85% of them are overweight or obese. According to Medicare statistics, in the month of March 2006 alone, there were more than 93,000,000 prescriptions filled. That’s more than 3 million prescriptions per DAY! Our bodies are miracles. When treated well, it's simply amazing what it is capable of doing. It's no longer as simple as eating well and exercising in order to keep our body healthy. As the pollutants increase in our environment, we need to continually support our body in order to improve our overall health. We need to cleanse our entire system on a cellular level in order to rejuvenate and replenish our body and help it do what it innately knows how to do. Not only do we need to do this once, we need to do it on a continual basis. Finding the right cleansing system for your body is the best thing you can do. Cleansing is not something you do once and never repeat. That would be like changing your car oil the first time and never tending to it again. To keep the body properly fuelled you must cleanse, revitalize and replenish it on a consistent basis. Cleansing on a cellular level should be high priority when sweeping impurities from your body. Your body works as a systematic unit, processing the air we breathe and the food and water we ingest through our entire body. So it stands to reason that spot cleaning doesn’t do the whole job. If we cleanse only the liver or only the kidneys or only the colon, or only whatever, we are leaving the rest of our body unnourished and susceptible to more attack. Internal cleansing on the cellular level draws impurities from the whole body simultaneously. A good enzyme delivery system distributes the formula throughout the entire body removing these impurities quickly and safely. How do you know if you need to cleanse? Your body always gives you signals. But, unfortunately, we don’t always recognize them for what they are, or we ignore them. In fact, many of us believe we are doing well and feeling well, until we go through a good cleansing process. Then we experience the truth of being healthy, and understand that because we felt the way we did for so long, we believed it to be normal. We often think we feel tired during the day, because we’re getting older or because we’ve been extremely busy. Or the bloating in our abdomen is because of something we ate. The truth is, these are often signs of a “toxic” body. Some other signals to having impurities in your body can be gas, weight issues, a feeling of always being stressed out, low energy levels, troubled sleep patterns, indigestion and food cravings, particularly for sugars and high processed foods. By properly cleansing, you can aid in reducing or eliminating these undesirable concerns. A superior nutritional cleansing system should be well balanced with natural high grade, organically processed herbs, and a wealth of vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids. Become a label reader. Look for ingredients such as peppermint leaf, licorice root and cinnamon bark, which help to reduce stomach distress and sooth the digestive tract. Probiotics like acidophilus puts friendly bacteria into your gastrointestinal tract and cleanses the bad organisms out. Extract of wolfberry and ginger root aid in keeping the circulatory system healthy, and black walnut and hisop help augment intestinal contractions thus moving impurities from the digestive system. Burdock root and yucca root both contain several trace minerals such as manganese and copper and are rich in a multiple of vitamins. Ayurvedic herbs like Ashwaghanda and Brahmi extract can help the body deal with stress and clear the mind. Cleansing should be a lifestyle. And for this reason, the system you use must be gentle on your body. There are products you can take that do not cause you to be running to the bathroom while you clean your system. There are products that work synergistically to cleanse the body internally on a cellular level, cleansing the blood, the liver, the colon, etc. You should feel good while cleansing, sleep well, and have lots of energy. The cleansing system should be fortifying your body with all the essential vitamin and mineral nutrients it needs, not depleting it. Look for something that is natural and organic and is financially viable and easy to follow through with. You can find cleansing systems online, in your local health store and sometimes through a naturopathic doctor. Whether you are overweight or a top performing athlete who is lean and fit, you still need to cleanse in order for your body to perform at its best. We all need to rid our body of the impurities of everyday living. We need to give our bodies the ammunition it requires to fight against the assaults we throw at it with the shampoos, soaps, cosmetics, cleaning products, foods, etc we use on a day to day basis. Help your body flush these impurities and become the miracle it was meant to be. Sheri Kauhausen is an independent associate with Isagenix cleansing products.
