Start Anew with Self Commitment

By Carolyn B. Coleridge, MSW

We have arrived, we are here, and 2009 has begun. What a great time to start anew. One foot in front of the other is the way to go. When we restart our life, we feel motivated, and assured that we are going in the right direction. We let things go, make plans, write things down and attempt to move forward. But what stops us? It is fear, doubt and worry. How can we reach our goal, how do we do it, what are the next steps? That is why it is important to have a spiritual practice and understanding. We are divine beings and we are supported always and at all times. All we must do is ask, get still and listen and watch for the path that opens up before us.

The universe is always working for our good and orchestrating the dynamics of our existence to help to create and fulfill our dreams. You remember the little spiritual whispers and inspirations that come forward in your life. You have heard the clarion call, and sometimes have dismissed the messages.

Starting anew means to say right here and now, I am going to begin to believe in the possibilities of the universe. Believe in your ability to create from thought, imagination wishes and dreams and then manifestation. Declare your new years ReSOULutions. Believe that your soul is now the captain of the ship of your destiny. Remember you never fail, you don't lose, there are no mistakes, you can always, start anew.

How do you start anew? Ask yourself this question: Who are you committed to? Your job, your debts, your story? When you commit to something, you are putting all of your intentions, emotions and energy into a project or situation. Commitment means discipline, focus and determination. Have you ever thought of committing to your thoughts, your wishes and dreams? Self commitment should be the new term that you write into your phonebook or blackberry and to be on your to-do list. We're committed to everyone else; why not numero uno? Commitment is a powerful energy. It is dynamic and fulfilling. What are your goals for the New Year? What intentions did you put into place? What energy vectors (desires) have you sent out to the universe?

When you don't pay your bills on time, you incur a penalty. Your electric bill not paid, the lights go off. Don't work out, your new pants don't fit. There are penalties for not committing. What is the penalty you have for not committing to your own life?

Self commitment is when you commit to yourself. You make yourself the priority over anything else. This year, let it be your year. Think about what YOU want, than open up your heart and begin to follow your intuition. Watch for the synchronicities and coincidences, the aha moments, the quiet whispers. You commit to paying off bills, now commit to eating right. Make a commitment to honoring your soul wishes. Think of yourself as reverent, royal and sacred. How would you treat someone like that? You are everything you worship in the stars, special, unique, awesome and miraculous. Please, know that your soul is divine and precious.

You commit to your job, you commit to you partner, commit to yourself and watch your whole life change in front of your eyes. Start anew and say I do, to YOU!
