From Summer Solstice to Autumnal Equinox – An Astrological Roadmap for the Soul

Summer Solstice is a turning point for introspection to find clarity, inspiration, and new direction. You might ask yourself what you have accomplished since last spring, and where you would like to be by the beginning of fall. At first it could be a bit overwhelming to find the direction that feels right. There may even be a sense of frustration, as the desired direction could easily be obstructed with temporary roadblocks. They will clear up as the hard angled planetary wrinkles smoothen out.
Remember that achievements are not necessarily made in the outer world; they can be deeply personal, inner aspirations. With its nurturing energy the Sun in Cancer brings this inner world to light. The womb was the ultimate place of security and comfort, a place we always remember subconsciously. Once born into the world of clashing opposites, the lack of this original sense of security became the root of many dilemmas. Where do we turn for reassurance, comfort, and direction?
Just as all streams end in the ocean, our souls ultimately return to the Source. Unlike the streams though, we need to make a conscious effort to reach this Source. Without a concentrated effort to know the spiritual reality of changelessness, the clashing opposites will keep throwing us back and forth from comfort and security to fear, frustration, and pain.
Sun in Cancer likes to invest in security. Can you find security in your intuition, from knowing the Source through your own conscious connection? Or are you mostly preoccupied with making ends meet, and fulfilling your personal or someone else’s worldly desires? The nature of the game is predetermined for the latter scenario to always end in disappointment.
See whether you can find the strength and motivation to feel secure within yourself. Test this as you keep meeting new challenges. Every time you feel an inner connection of clarity, joy, and peace, you are a little closer to recognizing your own infinity. The saints tell us that one day this sense will become permanent. They also remind us that in the meantime it is the effort that counts, not necessarily the outcome.
In August many of your creative projects can come to fruition. Sun in Leo loves to express itself through all mediums. Now is the time to recharge your batteries with your own creativity. Reach into the depth of your soul. Let your talent shine. This year the solar life force in Leo is coupled with the energy of exacting structure by the majestic and beautiful planet Saturn. How successfully this celestial team will pull the cart of your creative purpose is subject to your skill in holding the reigns.
Success depends on the ability to detach so that the creative impulse can work through you. Otherwise, the innovative well will dry up. Do you identify with your creations from a personal vantage point, or do you understand them to be in collaboration with divine power? Your ego still has a part in this, but it is not the driving force. When you remember to let Spirit drive the vehicle of creativity, success is a built-in feature. In this process your satisfaction is guaranteed, even though the outcome may not be exactly what you envisioned.
The same dynamic operates with child rearing. Children mirror all our strengths and weaknesses. This month, be a role model for grace and joyful expression. No matter what age, can you let your youngsters be their own person, or do they always have to be an extension of yourself? You never want to become a doormat, of course. Yet, can you sometimes allow your children to be playmates and friends? Saturn in Leo will certainly let you know when you have overstepped the boundaries of your parental power.
Once Virgo enters the celestial play, the time has come to be mature, industrious, and practical. Although these are necessary traits, working all the time just to keep busy is fueled by inner emptiness. So celebrate your oneness with life by fulfilling your duties. Then rest and enjoy the harvest of your labor. While Leo desires approval, and creates drama when it doesn’t get it, Virgo is the wallflower. Cultivate contentment, and count your blessings. This energy can also attract criticism for those who haven’t learned the lesson of humility.
Virgo has a tendency to deny what it does not like. Simultaneously, it is a great healer and an analytical thinker. Are you suppressing or ignoring something? Do not be afraid of the truth. This September carries much introspective energy for self-improvement. It’s a time to break apart and put back together what does not yet fit properly.
Beware of the need for perfection though. Guilt, blame, excessive criticism, and victimization come from expecting perfection where none can be found. Be real. One by one dodge your expectations of false purity. The perfection you are seeking is in your own heart. It comes through compassionately expanding your consciousness to infinity. See yourself in others, feel the unity underlying all diversity. Find fault with your ability to persevere in this, but not with who you are or with others.
