Philosophy and Comments

Your body-mind-spirit is designed for healing. In our current culture we tend to think of ourselves as parts that need to be fixed, as if a mechanic can adjust one part without disturbing the whole. We get caught in patterns of living that are not always helpful nor healthy. The proper non-invasive techniques can stimulate your system to find its own healthy balance. Releasing the myofascial system which connects every cell in your body can be effective for lasting pain relief. Feldenkrais can give you new movement patterns and freedom.

What is a FELDENKRAIS® - AWARENESS THROUGH MOVEMENT Lesson?

It’s about learning to move with more freedom & ease, power & connection.

We use gentle ‘non-habitual’ patterns of movement; for example, turning your head to the left and your eyes to the right. Or extending your spine while looking down.

We help people feel a sense of the parts of themselves connected: like reaching and feeling the connection to your pelvis; and like walking and feeling power from your leg up into your pelvis and spine.

Every class is different. We usually lie on mats on the floor. The Feldenkrais teacher guides you with her/his voice – there’s no demonstration. There’s also no competition, no ‘getting it right’, and no wrong way to do the lesson – there’s only your exploration and opening up to your own senses.

People usually feel more relaxed, taller, less pain, more balanced.

You’ll feel more embodied, more in control, a sense of new possibilities being open to you.

Usually my students have a difficult time explaining how they feel changed after a lesson. In the Feldenkrais Method we access the kind of learning that we used as babies, pre-verbal, holistic learning that engages the senses in an intrinsic way. So the changes you experience are at a deep level of the brain. You may not have words to describe what you feel. It’s not necessary to be able to articulate. You may even experience changes that don’t seem related to the lesson: a sense of ease speaking up at work or school, trying new activities, relationships may become more spontaneous.

The possibilities are endless!

Feldenkrais classes are for all ages and abilities. Improve your life today!

New Research Study supporting Awareness Through Movement

The Feldenkrais Guild® of North America recently announced the publication of a research study by Temple University Professor James Stephens, PT, PhD, CFP, which found that hamstring muscles can be lengthened using specific Awareness Through Movement® lessons. The study was published in Physical Therapy Journal (Volume 86, Number 12, December 2006).
