Description

Rolfing

Profile and Credentials

I trained with Ida Rolf (she was a "youth of 72" when I first met her) and did the advanced training in Boulder in the 1980s.

Philosophy and Comments

There is a dimension to the rolfing experience that I think is important.

Ida Rolf believed (as do I) that the muscles store emotions and past experiences, which rolfing can release. This gives people an opportunity to come to terms with past experiences in more relaxed context (that is, away from the original trauma) and with more wisdom and strength than they had at the time of the experience. To sum up, although the basis of rolfing is a physical release of muscles, rolfing affects our emotions and relationship to the world. Indeed, strange as it may seem, for me, rolfing is a spiritual experience. I should add that not everyone I rolf agrees with the last statement. For some, all they want is the physical therapy, which is fine. I am just telling you what is available. It is for you to choose what you want from rolfing.

The other point is that Ida Rolf developed rolfing for "healthy people", who had tight muscles or inbalances in posture but were not injured or in great pain. Rolfing is a form of preventive health care and a way of optimizing life. Thus, one doesn't need to have back pain or a shoulder injury to get rolfed.

Work Hours and Fee Schedule

I like to space the sessions out, although I was rolfed once/week. Thus, I usually suggest every 2 or 3 weeks, which allows for better integration of the emotional experiences. I have had very good results with once/month.

I do sessions in late afternoon and early evening and on saturdays

My fee is $100/session.
