Barbara E. Herrera is a California Licensed Midwife and Certified Professional Midwife. She owns Ama Mama Holistic Healthcare and Ama Mama boasts 3 LMs and one CNM under its umbrella. Professional, yet whimsical location for prenatal care visits. Support services include Pregnancy Massage, a Chiropractor who specializes in pregnancy and infants, Acupuncture (for breeches or post-dates, included), and Homeopathy (with a midwife's daughter).

All too often, women discover that their experience in birth (with doctors, nurses, and midwives alike) was not what it could have been. Disappointed, sad... and even traumatized... we know the stories. Whether you have heard "horror stories" from friends and family or experienced them yourself, we want to make it different for you this time.

We strive to respect your wishes, even the not-so-typical requests. Want dad to catch (and minimal midwife intervention)? We can do that (within the realm of safety, of course). Want the maximum safety a normal birth affords while also instituting a giant level of care and support? We can do that, too.

Anything can be explored. Those who feel marginalized especially encouraged to call or email!

Hours are extremely flexible including nights and weekend appointments with some midwives. Typical office hours are 9am - 6pm. Childbirth classes on Tuesday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

Most insurances pay! Payment plans available.

Barbara E. Herrera, LM adores birth photography and brings with her a Canon DSLR 20D to take SLR-quality photos. Within 6 hours after the birth, she will email you smaller sized pictures to send to family and friends and within a week, she will deliver a cd-rom with your precious photos. Average photos taken at a birth is 350 and you can edit as you desire. She can also refer you to an editor who can do a slideshow or movie for you.

Want to (or have to) deliver in a hospital or birth center but want to stay home as long as possible? If this is your desire and you would like qualified assistance to listen to your baby, monitor your blood pressure, take your temperature, or determine dilation, we offer Monitrice services done by Licensed Midwives.

Not often known, but LMs and CNMs can do well-woman exams, too! Insurance often pays and care is more gentle and respectful than typical GYN care. Paps, pre-conception counseling, nutrition counseling, labs, and more!
