Reiki is a form of gentle 'hands on' energy healing that originated in Japan in the late 1800's. A Reiki practitioner channels Universal Life Force energy (aka God, Source, Spirit) and directs it into the recipient's energy field and body. This is the same as the "laying on of hands" or other types of energy healing systems including Healing Touch or Therapeutic Touch. It is safe and accessible to everyone, as the Reiki practitioner does not use their own energy for healing. It is channeled directly from Source. Reiki is an alternative healing system that helps revitalize the physical body and remove energy blockages that can cause illness. It does not, however, replace professional medical care. Reiki does not require a specific belief system (and you don't really even need to believe in Reiki itself for it to work!) and it belongs to no religion.

The practitioner places their hands in certain positions over the recipient's body. Reiki is completely non-invasive and the client remains fully clothed. Recipient's sometimes feel warmth or a tingly sensation from the practitioner's hands, but not required for it to "work." Because it is so relaxing, the recipient may fall asleep during a treatment. It is a wonderful tool for simple relaxation or stress reduction. Reiki is Subtle Energy, so its effects may be felt long after the session is complete.
