Description

Lydia’s massage is unlike any other you’ve experienced. She moves at a snail’s pace: intentionally slow, allowing the body to actually feel change occurring while the mind records it. This is known as biofeedback and is necessary to achieve lasting relief. Lydia works deeply, but her massage is non-intrusive: she carefully waits for the tissue to catch on, and let down its fascial barriers. See for yourself how Lydia’s massage delivers greater lasting results. When you receive a massage from Lydia, you receive a personalized session of integrative bodywork utilizing the following modalities:

Myofascial Release(MFR)uses traction and stretching to release and unwind fascia (sticky Saran wrap-like connective tissue) back to a healthy state, releasing the adverse effects of inflammation, tensions and trauma.

Trigger Point Therapy is the application of pressure to specific areas to release tension or tenderness in congested muscle tissue. Trigger points may radiate pain to other areas of the body.

Shiatsu uses rhythmic pressure from 3 to 10 seconds on specific points along the body's meridians by using the fingers, palms, elbows, knees, and sometimes feet to unblock and stimulate the flow of energy.

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils for rejuvenating effects: reduces stress and tension, refreshes and invigorates the body, soothes emotions, and clears the mind.

Thai Yoga Massage is an interactive manipulation of the body using passive stretching and gentle pressure along energy lines.

Deep Tissue Massage is using deep muscle compression and friction along the grain or across the grain of the muscle using elbows, forearms, and fists. Its purpose is to unstick the fibers of the muscles and release both toxins and deeply held patterns of tension.

Reflexology is an acupressure type technique performed on the hands, feet and outer ear stimulating the natural energy of the organ system and restoring normal functioning and health.

Profile and Credentials

Lydia learned the meaning of holistics at an early age. Although her gymnastics carrier was short-lived, she has never forgotten the lessons imbued by her coaches:

Feeling off-balance?

• Maybe you need to stretch.

• Always breathe.

• Move with intention.

• And, drink plenty of water. At the age of 17,

Lydia received her first theapeautic massage; and has since, made it a regular part of her routine. Today, on her own time, she also practices core strengthening and yoga. Lydia advocates any form of practice that strengthens the body, restores energy and balance, and stresses the importance of the breath. And, she makes it a point drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Lydia has sought to find health and balance in her life. Through intentional practice, she has overcome perceived obstacles and has welcomed challenge in her life. Finding health for herself in holistic bodywork, Lydia has not only gained strength, but purpose in her life.

What Lydia really loves is working with people and has always sought careers that empowered her to help others. For five years Lydia worked as a Registered Dental Assistant before returning to school at the age of 27 to achieve her 4-year degree. Lydia continued to volunteer 6 months following graduation in one of the two Outreach programs which she participated during her studies at UCLA. She received her BA in Sociology in 2002. A year later she received her certification in Intuitive Massage Therapy from the Hands on Healing Institute in Tujunga, with further studies in Myofascial Release, Soft-Tissue Mobalization, Thai Yoga Massage, Structural Kinesiology and Anatomy.

Philosophy and Comments

Lydia believes that the body has the innate capacity to heal itself. By taking the time to examine different aspects of her life and honestly identifying what works and what doesn’t, she has been able to re-connect with the essence of who she is. By confronting so-called hereditary diseases like asthma and psoriasis holistically, Lydia has been able to get to the core of much of her body/mind dis-ease.

Come to your senses! Boost your energy, calm your nerves, and increase your resistance to illness. Relieve yourself of external attachments and ease into a space of personalized attention. Enjoy a thorough massage from a trained experienced therapist in a treatment room complete with heated table, centering music and soothing aromatherapy. Heal yourself with a truly therapeutic massage integrating MFR, Energy Balancing, Deep Tissue Manipulation, and Assisted Stretching resulting in a relaxed, reconnected body and mind. Restore your body's unique natural balance, and reconnect with the essence of who you are.

"I feel passionate about what I do. I celebrate my clients’ relief as if it is my own. Allow me to help you discover inner peace and balance in your body and your life." —Lydia Van Kirk, LMT
