Philosophy and Comments

I consider psychotherapy to be a sacred practice. I endeavor to provide a healing environment in which I can collaborate with my clients for their maximum benefit. My interest is in helping people to live more consciously, exercise more psychic freedom, develop more satisfying relationships, achieve greater levels of health, and reduce unnecessary suffering. I place a high value on ethics and integrity, and feel a strong sense of responsibility in my work.

My range is versatile, as I synthesize from my knowledge of family systems, my understanding of unconscious processes, and the connections between body, mind, spirit, and relationships in order to facilitate the healing process. I have trained with many of the pioneers in the fields of Family Therapy, Jungian Analysis, Intersubjective - Interrelational psychoanalysis, and Psychoneuroimmunology.

I work with individuals, same sex and opposite sex couples, and families. In relationships, I am aware of the tendency to reenact family of origin issues in current relationships. Understanding these patterns frees people so that they can relate more consciously. In areas of family conflict, I integrate conflict resolution with other methodologies, and strive to achieve an attitude of no blame. In my work with individuals, I promote insight as well as more creative, productive, and functional patterns of interacting.

Inspired by my longstanding interest in exceptional physical healing, I have investigated the qualities of people who beat the odds, as part of my specialty in the field of psychoneuroimmunology. I have worked extensively with people with cancer and other conditions. I have studied with Bernie Siegel, Lawrence LeShan and Joan Borysenko, incorporating their models into my work with people with cancer and other conditions. In this subspecialty, I have lectured on "The Psychology of Healing," and "Beyond the Cancer Personality" and have supervised interns from the Center for the Advancement of Cancer Education. In addition, I collaborate with other health care professionals to support a coherent approach that maximizes benefits of all treatments.

Working with dreams adds a dimension and my extensive Jungian training has taught me how to respect and interpret dream images. These gifts from the unconscious can be reliable sources which reveal essential information and guides our work together.
