Profile and Credentials
I am a State-Licensed Professional Counselor and received my MA in Somatic Psychology/Dance/Movement Therapy from Naropa University. I am a National Certified Counselor and have obtained the topmost registration by the American Dance Therapy Association to be an Academy of Dance Therapists Registered (ADTR). Over the years, I have worked in many community agencies with many adults, children, adolescents, groups and families dealing with crisis, trauma, relationship issues, sexual abuse, domestic violence, mental illness, eating disorders, developmental disabilities and teen pregnancy, to name a few.
Currently, I also work as a primary psychotherapist at Mirasol Center for Eating Disorders, a residential facility for women with eating disorders. In my private practice, I am starting an outpatient women’s therapeutic support group in early February for women dealing with eating disorders, body image issues, women’s issues and sexuality.
Philosophy and Comments
My theoretical framework stems from a relational/feminist, developmental model that considers the client(s) as part of a whole system (family, body/mind/spirit). My main focus is to facilitate clients in their process of self-discovery and self-expression within the therapeutic container and within interpersonal relationships. In sessions, I utilize dance/movement therapy, body-centered principles, movement observation, expressive play, various expressive arts and clinically skilled verbal techniques. I believe that discovering one’s potentiality for health and healing is essential, and we are all capable of gaining a sense of wholeness through the integration of body/mind/spirit.
