The Feldenkrais Center of Houston
Description
The Feldenkrais Method uses gentle, minimal body movement as a means of developing awareness. This revolutionary neuromuscular re-education process helps clients of any age to reconnect to their innate abilities to think, move, and feel, and thereby resolve chronic tension and pain, athletic and artistic challenges, deteriorating function and neurological difficulties.
Profile and Credentials
MaryBeth Smith characterizes herself as a "Creative Possibility Coach" and performance improvement specialist. She holds degrees in music from the University of Illinois and the University of Texas, San Antonio. In October, 2004, she received her full accreditation as a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner® (GCFP) from the Institute for the Study of Somatic Education, in conjunction with the Feldenkrais® Guild of North America.
After ten years on the voice faculty in the School of Music at Texas State University--San Marcos, MaryBeth decided to leave academia to explore her passion and develop the “main theme” of her work: helping others to realize their untapped potential. Her students include business leaders, actors, dancers, teachers, athletes, members of the clergy, vocal and instrumental musicians, senior citizens, and people experiencing a variety of difficulties, including fibromyalgia, lupus, MS, and eating disorders.
MaryBeth teaches Awareness Through Movement® and Functional Integration® lessons, classes, and workshops in Houston and throughout the region. She is in demand as a speaker for professional and networking groups, and designs specialized programs for corporate trainings and retreats, universities, arts and non-profit organizations, and school districts. She continues to perform throughout the USA in concert, recital, opera, and musical theatre. She is an Associate of Affiliates in Physical Therapy in Houston. MaryBeth is also a charter member of the Houston Holistic Chamber of Commerce and its Speakers Bureau, www.houstonholisticchamber.com
