Description

Missy's classes honor body, mind, & spirit in a fun way using yoga asanas, restorative yoga, breathing, guided imagery, and meditation to facilitate relaxation. Missy believes deep healing can and often does result from the practice of yoga. This idea is true for Missy. At one time, Missy was house-bound due to a chronic illness. Missy now leads a happy, healthy, beautiful life with her husband, also a Registered Yoga Teacher, and two children

Profile and Credentials

My varied background blends to create a unique and supportive approach to teaching yoga. My journey began by attending Columbus College of Art & Design studying Interior Design & Advertising Design along with a traditional Fine Arts background. I continued to study Art Education, Art Therapy, and Eastern Philosophy at Wright State University earning a B.S. in Education certifying me to teach Art in grades K - 12.

Throughout college I supported myself working as a freelance draftsman and property manager. It was at this time I was diagnosed with a debilitating chronic illness for which there is no cure. The lowest point of the illness came after the birth of our second child which led me to become housebound due to pain. I saw a posting on the then new Internet where a patient with my illness (then rare) found pain relief through the practice of yoga. I then crawled (quite literally) to my first yoga class where the pain began to unravel, then stabilize, and then became manageable.

The dark cloud of pain, fear, and anxiety finally began to lift. I could function again as a mother and a wife. I was forever changed by and hooked on yoga. My quest led to more yoga training where I found the love of my life: teaching yoga! I returned to the love of studying Eastern philosophy and turned to the newfound study of Reiki as well. After completing Yoga Teacher Training and earning the designation of Registered Yoga Teacher, I traveled to California to study under Bhaskar Alan Deva, deepening my yoga and spiritual practice and became a Certified Feng Shui and Vastu Shastra Consultant. I went on to study with Judith Hanson Lasater to become a Relax and Renew Trainer certifying me to teach Restorative Yoga, a therapeutic approach.

I have continued to study with many master yoga teachers: Vidya Carolyn Dell’uomo, Cyndi Lee, Angela Farmer and Victor Van Kooten, Nischala Joy Devi, Erich Schiffmann. Recently my husband (also a Registered Yoga Teacher) and I studied advanced meditation practice and The Secret Power of Yoga with Nischala Joy Devi and Bhaskar Alan Deva at their amazing, totally one-of-a-kind retreat in Puerto Penaso, Mexico. Kent and I will study again with Erich Schiffmann in September.

Comments about Missy's Classes

"I have a chronic condition which causes my muscles to be knotted and sore. Without the gentle stretching and relaxation provided by Missy's on-site yoga, I would be more uncomfortable and would probably need to miss more work days. She is very knowledgeable in the yoga practice and many other areas related to mental and physical health. Missy makes the class fun and light-hearted. I've enjoyed these classes for years and have made many friends. I recommend these classes to anyone." A LexisNexis Employee

More about Missy's Classes

I have been taking Yoga classes from Missy for 3 years now. Missy has the very best relaxation and visualization techniques imaginable. Her voice lulls you into a wonderful state of relaxation that leaves you with a sense that all is good and peaceful. We often comment in her classes that she should record her sessions so more people can enjoy her guiding them inside themselves to find the tranquility and happiness that we all experience.

Missy always seems to know what we need to work on when we come into the classroom. Her sense of perception is amazing and I always leave feeling very calm and relaxed. She helps us understand what our bodies and minds need to relieve our aches and pains, to sleep better, or to stay limber as we age.

Yoga has become a very important part of my life thanks to Missy. I appreciate all that she has taught me and look forward to many more sessions!

Namaste
