If you are feeling stuck, lonely, or discontented, we will help you get unstuck, heal relationships, and feel excited about life! A Home Away offers a new-life retreat experience for individuals, couples, or very small groups of up to six concurrent guests.

Your retreat is designed to help you to live life fully, powerfully, and with self love and respect. We believe that each individual deserves the hope of a renewed sense of self respect, love and purpose.

You will learn about living life on life’s terms, including having fun again! That’s why we include recreation ranging from hikes, walks, world-class downhill skiing/boarding, sailing, golfing, bowling, and swimming.

Like sailing or like to learn how? In the warmer weather we will invite you to join us on our brand new Beneteau First 36.7 sailboat. Now, that’s worth the trip in itself!

Within the core program, each guest is treated as an individual and with respect. Your recovery retreat allows you to explore your life, success factors, blocks to realizing your dreams, belief systems, personal faith, inter-and intrapersonal relationships, living free of alcohol or other drug dependency or addictions, recovery issues, life and vocational coaching, spirituality (non-religious), fitness, artistic expression, and massage.

John Derry, B.Sc. Phm., M.A. is founding Director of A HOME AWAY. Building upon his professional background and success of a private counselling practice, A HOME AWAY was conceived as an innovative and unique, holistic alternative to traditional institutionalized treatment options.

He has an impressive track record of success and is known for his outstanding interpersonal, communication and leadership skills. He offers a unique depth of expertise based upon his complementary proficiencies in pharmacy, addiction, and counseling. His credentials and professional experience distinguish him as an expert in his field.

Codependency Retreats        

If addiction is a chronic, progressive, family disease, and everyone in the family system is affected, then why is it that rehab is typically only for the alcoholic/addict?

Adult children of alcoholics (ACOA) and other forms of codependency are just as significant and impactful as addiction to alcohol, other drugs, or behaviors such as gambling. The alcoholic / addict goes off to rehab and comes home a new person: freed of destructive patterns of thinking and behaving, relieved of shame, guilt and remorse, and with new life skills for living life on life’s terms, one day at a time.

But what about you? Perhaps you have grown up with an alcoholic parent. Or you have been in relationship, or marriage, with a suffering alcoholic or addict. You worry about others, try to make things right, give of yourself endlessly, feel upset, disrespected, or taken for granted by the way others treat you, attempt to control people, places or things, feel empty, despair, lesser-than, shame, or anger. You feel alone in a sea of people you care for. No one understands.

We do. We get it. You need and deserve help too! You too should have a healing, nurturing place where you can go to heal. Have a break. Take time for you. Restore and renew.

Private Counseling        

Not everyone wants or needs the intensity of a residential based program. Private counselling or having a personal coach or online sessions helps many people who want to change something in their life but just feel stuck.

Issues often relate to one or more of: self esteem, peace of mind, relationships, family, career, achievement, behaviours, addictions, marriage, codependency, sex, smoking, finances, anxiety, fears, depression, self image, grief and loss, anger and forgiveness, just to name a few. Once into sobriety, many find emotions and changes in their lives that are concerning. A recovery coach or counselling will help.

Perhaps you have an underlying unease or discontentment and can’t put your finger on what it is that’s troubling you. Or perhaps, like many, you don’t necessarily have ‘an issue’, but would like personal coaching and/or mentoring to be more effective at your already amazing life! That’s okay, because, our focus is not on the problem, but rather on the solution.

Personal or online sessions can be arranged, individually or as a couple, with one or two counsellors.
