Profile and Credentials

Born in New York in 1955. David has pursued martial arts training since he was 15 years old starting with Kempo Karate in New York. David earned a first degree black belt in Okinawan Karate (Uechi-Ryu) in the late 1970's and then switched to Tai Chi Chuan training in Boston's Chinatown in 1980 and since then he has studied Tai Chi and Qigong continuously in The United States, Beijing and Hong Kong.David holds certification as a Tai Chi Instructor from Peking University to teach Tai Chi and Qigong. I am now accepting students in New York City. See contact details below.

Philosophy and Comments

I bring 39 years of experience from training in various martial arts ranging from Okinawan Karate (earning a black belt in Uechi Ryu Karate in 1978) to Qigong and Tai Chi training since 1980 with Yang Family Tai Chi teachers and Disciples and family students in The United States and Hong Kong and also study with the Director of Beijing University Center for Wushu Research privately eventually earning teaching certification from The Beijing International Wushu Association. For the past 29 years of my education I have focused on Qigong and Tai Chi Training. I have also retreated into temples for meditation, developed the international company Waving Clouds Productions Ltd. promoting over 40 of the top martial artists in China for Health and Education and Multimedia Projects. Among one of the more rewarding projects I have done through Waving Clouds is to provided trips for school children to study Wushu in China. My emphasis in my own teaching over the past decade has been teaching people to enjoy and feel the movements of Qigong and Tai Chi and use the exercise to better their lives. Martial Arts at the highest level are of course about spiritual growth. Letting go of all the negative energy is at the root of Holistic Qigong and Tai Chi.

My personal experience has led me to develop a method of using the core of Qigong and Tai Chi and a few related exercises to develop a way to use this practice in an efficient and useful tool for my students and fellow teachers to enhance their lives. I would be happy to provide contact information for people I have taught who have moved on to be teachers of Tai Chi and the related arts through my training if you wish to ask them what my teaching has done for them.

I now reside in Hong Kong and New York and I am also available for seminars internationally.

Baduan literally means "eight sections" and jin, "brocade". In the course of its development, baduanjin has appeared in a number of different versions. David's method was devised by Zhong Li in the Tang dynasty (618-907) and rearranged by his teacher Li Shixin, a lecturer in the Physical Education Department of Beijing University.
