YOGA, BREATH & SOUND

JULIE ZIMMERMANN

Kripalu Professional-Level Teacher, 500 EYRT

Julie is a 500-hr EYRT Yoga teacher, recognized by the Yoga Teachers Alliance. The hallmark of her practice is the ancient gift of pranayama, moving energy through the body through breathwork and asana, using meditation as a tool to be with this newly awakened vibrant energy, encouraging sound and the internal music we carry individually and collectively to express this life force.

At Kripalu Center, in Lenox, MA, Julie assisted many internationally recognized yoga teachers. She has hosted workshops and retreats focusing on the chakras, meditation, pranayama, and sounding, and has created outreach work in communities with no prior experience of yoga and its effects. She is the recipient of several Diversity Grants for her work with special populations, including chakra workshops for the HIV-positive community, asana practice and meditation for after-school programs in Harlem, chair yoga for seniors in the Haitian-Kreyol community near Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and injury-specific work with musicians.

A lover of travel and the arts, a performer and writer, Julie’s work brings her passion for these loves to her work hosting yoga adventure safaris along with her zoologist-partner in Costa Rica, Mexico, Guateomala, Peru, and Africa, as well as U.S destinations where yoga and wildlife and sustainable living come together to support the immediacy and importance of making each moment a present moment experience.

A lifelong student of yoga herself, she is blessed with many students since she began teaching in 1999, and teaches hatha and vinyasa group classes and private sessions in New York City, and brings workshops to locations across the U.S.

For more information, private sessions, group sessions and schedules, and trainings for 200 hour teaching certifications, please contact Julie at (212) 388-8248, or email her at jazzim@aol.com.
