I am a Certified Nurse-Midwife. After being a direct-entry midwife and RN since 1985, I decided about 7 yrs. ago to go on for the Nurse-Midwifery degree. I have been working in the childbearing field in some capacity since 1980. I am also, available to teach skills classes to midwifery students. I participate in homebirth meet-up/support groups and peer review among/with other homebirth nurse-midwives in NC.
Birthwise Midwifery School teaches Direct Entry Midwifery. It cultivates the Art and Science of Tradional Midwifery by combining academic & clinical components which prepares students to become licensed direct entry midwives. Our graduates become CPM Certified Practical Midwives offering in-home birthing as well as well-woman care. Founded in 1994, Birthwise is accredited by MEAC (Midwifery Education Accreditation Council)and licensed by the state of Maine, approved by the Dept of Education for Title IV loans and grants. The Birthwise program is 2-1/2 to 3 years and is divided into 2 components, 3 semesters of Academic followed by 3 semester Preceptorship.

I have ben a Lic Midwife in SC since 1986. I have a course (Midwife To Be )that is SC DHEC aproved. Its 30 units with 2 tests per unit. Each unit takes apx 1 mo. Cost is $25 per unit. see web site for more info. Its a pay as you go course. Also join our Midwife To Be Yahoo group if enrolled.
