A Mary Jo Smiley CMTPT, CMMT, LMT at Advanced Bodywork, Massage and Yoga
www.myofascialtherapy.massagetherapy.com My original training was at the Pittsburgh School of Pain Management for Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy (1999), which is now a 650 hour course. This school teaches from the medical text "Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction The Trigger Point Manual" by Drs Travell and Simons and does not teach massage.

This training puts my understanding of MYOFASCIAL PAIN AND DYSFUNCTION far ahead of the massage therapist and Chiropractors who had "trigger point massage" included in the 500 hour massage program or took a weekend class or two. I have since gone on to attain the National Certification in Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy and the National Certification in Medical Massage.

With these and other modalities, my focus has always been pain management and correction of muscle dysfunction. Many pain complaints are due to dysfunction of muscle and soft tissue, which can be addressed using Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy, Medical Massage, Orthopedic Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy and Therapeutic Exercise. I have worked with Chiropractors and MDs to provide, in many cases, far better pain management than Pharmaceuticals can provide.

I specialize in MIGRAINES, HEADACHES and upper body problems, partially because these were my own pain complaints and partially because these are so extremely common. Pharmaceuticals such as pain meds and anti-inflammatory seldom work for long-term relief where as addressing the trigger points and other soft tissue dysfunction actually REMOVES the problem in many cases.

Alchemy Grace is a multi-faceted healthcare service, with an emphasis on approaches that are natural and encourage the self-healing capacity in each of us.

Classical Homeopathy...
a natural and safe healthcare alternative. Homeopathy offers exquisite balance without the use of potentially harmful substances or side effects. It works by gently stimulating your innate self-healing mechanism to do what it has forgotten—to bring you to a state of health physically, mentally and emotionally. Remedies are produced from substances found in the natural world that when applied in the correct fashion, remind your system to find its own natural state of balance.

Alchemy Somatics...
a non-force bodywork option. It is a fusion of styles and training gained over the course of 20 years which works non-invasively with neuromuscular tension patterns and fascial restrictions in a way that is painless, deeply effective and transformative. By using comfortable positioning and movement, the client’s self-corrective reflexes are accessed, facilitating pain relief, structural balance and a greater sense of well-being. Function is improved through gentle re-education.

Allen, Rey - Certified Advanced Rolfer ®
Rey Allen, Certified Advanced Rolfer ®

www.RolfingNewYork.com

Not to be confused with 'deep-tissue massage', ROLFING is the most effective way of getting to the source of a postural or structural problem.

ROLFING is a hands-on approach to correcting posture. Through subtle reshaping of the soft tissue, ROLFING returns the body to its proper alignment.

There is a growing amount of mainstream scientific research documenting the effectiveness of Rolf therapy. A 1988 study published in the Journal of the American Physical Therapy Association indicated that Rolfing greatly influenced the parasympathetic nervous system, which can help speed the recovery of damaged tissue. Other studies done in the 1980s concerned the effectiveness of Rolfing in treating figure skaters, self confidence and children with cerebral palsy. In 1992 a presentation was made to the National Center of Medical Rehabilitation Research regarding Rolfing in the treatment of degenerative joint disease. A 1997 article in The Journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy reported that Rolfing can provide effective and sustained pain relief from lower back problems. The Department of Movement Behavior at UCLA in conjunction with the California Department of Mental Hygiene has shown with Rolfing creates a more efficient use of muscles, allows the body to conserve energy, and creates economical and refined patterns of movement.

Basically, ROLFING provides real and lasting relief for chronic or recent aches and pains, including:

.
~ Poor posture

~ Muscle tension

~ Injuries

~ TMJ

~ Neck pain & Headaches

~ Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

~ Carpal Tunnel

~ Helps with poor digestion (Visceral Manipulation)

~ Low back pain

~ Tight hips

~ Foot pain from breaks, high or low arches

Anam Cara School of Equine Massage
The purpose of our school is to assist you in developing and maintaining a deep soul connection with the horse. In the process, you'll develop skills necessary to give relief to horses in the form of bodywork...massage, myofascial release, and Reiki.

Courses are presented in two levels, each level consisting of five days, and are held in Merrimac, Wisconsin at Grand R Morgans Farm. Courses combine lecture, discussion, guided meditation, and lots of hands on practice with the horses. Horse handling skills are a prerequisite.

Level 1, The Foundation Course gets you started on equine anatomy, massage, energy work, and intuitive development.

Level 2, Advanced Course takes the above a step further and myofascial release is taught. Hands on and written exams are given at the end of level 2, along with follow-up field study.

Karen Braun, Instructor, is also available to do personal sessions for your horse, at your stable. Sessions are one hour in length.

Arthur Munyer, cmt, tpr, od
Arthur Munyer THE CREATOR OF THE MUNYER METHOD is an Esalen® Certified Bodywork Therapist and Trigger Point Specialist with over 30 years of experience as a Practitioner and Teacher of various bodywork and emotional release disciplines at Esalen® Institute in Big Sur, CA. In addition he teaches workshops in Europe, South America, United States and a private practice in Carmel, California.

"I maintain a very active private practice on the Monterey Peninsula. Over the years I have developed an enormous respect for the wisdom of the the four energy bodies (physical/mind/spirit/emotional) and approach somatic work as a process of unfoldment, not pushing for change but allowing it to happen, much as a rose unfolds when it's ready. There are many levels to this work because there are many levels of experience that healing touch makes available. The physical body is a vehicle for Spirit, and it is also a storehouse of information about how we feel, where we carry our pain, and how we protect and defend ourselves from the stresses of daily life. In my work I invite and allow the body itself to communicate its state of being, to reveal to the conscious mind the unspoken truth it carries in order to promote a deeper state of awareness and well-being. We begin with the surface, but our journey is really an inward one toward the core of the tensions that manifest in the body.
