Working with Musicians and The Alexander Technique |
By N. Brooke Lieb / Certified Teacher of the Alexander Technique
F. M. Alexander’s work is most widely known among performing artists, and is currently included in the curriculum of many Performing Arts programs, including Juilliard, New York University, Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute, The Mannes College of Music and the Royal College of Music in London. To work with a musician, I begin where I would with any other student: exploring habits. The Alexander Technique is a unique tool to learn to bring greater and greater efficiency and ease to the task of living by knowing how to identify overuse of muscles, mental and physical energy, and lessen that overuse. With any new student, I am going to begin with the simple activity of moving in and out of a chair (chairwork). This is a rich "laboratory" in which to bring habits of thought and movement to light for a student and teach them how to interrupt those habits, allowing for new and more effective patterns to become available.

Jazz And Gestalt Therapy: The Art Of Being In The Moment
|
by By Hana Dolgin, M.A. / Gestalt Psychotherapist
Allow me to introduce myself: I am a jazz saxophonist and a Gestalt psychotherapist. While these might seem like two very different occupations, in fact they have a lot in common. What they have in common is the art of being in the moment. When we are able to experience ourselves free from preconceptions which arise from various sources (such as our personal history, cultural and social norms, even our own concept of who we "are"), we can let ourselves be surprised by the surfacing of aspects of ourselves we weren't previously aware of. These experiences enlarge and enrich our sense of "self". We are a myriad of potentialities and possibilities! We can encompass a host of traits and behaviors! Jazz is a style of music that includes a lot of improvisation. When I improvise, I can "recycle" old musical phrases and patterns, which are time-tested and safe, or I can take the risk of following each note and seeing what musical idea will suggest itself to me next -- perhaps an idea I've never had or tried before! When I'm able to be open in that way, I allow a unique creation to emerge.

Reading the Tarot From the Eyes of a Child
|
by Rondell Demmings / Certified Professional Tarot Reader, Life Coach and Founder of Visions Illuminated
It amazes me how open children are to
the images on the tarot. I frequently ask my children what they see
when they look at a card and it always amazes me how they pick up on
images on the card that I may have overlooked. Now when I teach others
to read tarot cards I tell them to go back to their grade school days
when they couldn’t read and tell me what story the picture is telling
them. When we take away all of what we have learned from the years and
go back to the basics, we can see a lot in one tarot card.

New Powers to Help You Perfect Your Relationships |
by Guy Finley / Author and Director of Life of Learning Foundation
There is always a moment before a problem starts with another human being where we realize that what we want is not going to happen. Ordinarily we'll say the other person is about to "ruin my day." But there is, for those of us who want to understand, not only a way for our day not to be ruined, but a way for us to elevate both ourselves and the other person, or at least give them the opportunity to change their lives as well our own. The nature of change has nothing to do with what another person has done to us. What the other person did presented us with a moment of grace -- the opportunity for us to see that the reason this happened is so that we are moved to where we can take the next step in our life. We can use this painful moment to prove to ourselves that not only has what we've wanted all along not worked, but there exists something that if we change what we want, we can begin to know ourselves at a higher level.

Are You Ready to Come Out of the Closet as a Psychic? |
by Amoráh Ross / Intuitive Life Coach & Psychic Counselor
Do you suspect that you may be psychic and are too shy to say so because your family or friends may think that you're nuts, especially if you have no way or method to validate it? Have you always had a sense that you had a life mission of service to others to fulfill - and do you suspect that by fully acknowledging and developing your psychic gift you could launch yourself into that mission and service and achieve life fulfillment? If you doubt you have psychic gifts, but at the same time are torn because of an inner knowing that there is something different about how you perceive the world, you're not alone - and welcome to the club! In my case, it took several years to fully understand the way that I perceive with my psychic abilities. I was fortunate to have some powerful, perceptive and nurturing teachers who helped me acknowledge and value the way my psychic perception works.

The Industry of Bliss - Marketing Your Holistic Business |
by Barbara Casey / NewRadiance.com
I read an interesting new book called The New Culture of Desire by Melinda Davis, CEO of a futurist think tank in New York. In her book, Davis discloses the conclusions of a 6-year study on what makes people want what they want and do what they do. The study was conducted primarily for big business, where the results might have sounded more earth-shaking. For the body, mind, spirit community, however, the conclusions more or less corroborate what we've know for some time: bliss sells. In a nutshell, Davis asserts that the most powerful survival needs of consumers now are "psychospiritual." Physical survival needs have been overtaken by the need for
instant altered states, richer human connection, a more solid sense of self, a clearer vision of the path, and greater inner pleasure. She talks about the business person (or marketer) as a healer, helping clients reach an "optimal state of mind," where you can "lose your sense of being anywhere and feel a wondrous sense of unity with the universe." As I was reading, a number of business ideas popped into my mind, based pretty much on Davis' premises. See what you think.

Astrology as a Parenting Tool |
|
by Cheetah Lindquester / AwarenessRising.com
Whether you're the parent of a baby or a teenager, astrology can be one of the greatest gifts any parent can ask for when it comes to understanding your child, family dynamics and the course that it all follows. I have used astrology seriously in my own parenting journey and I only wish that my parents had done the same thing. Through a natal chart you can discover things about your child that would otherwise take a life time to realize. Meanwhile you could be wasting a lot of energy trying to make your child into someone they are not, ultimately hindering them from being who they want. Astrology can provide insights into every aspect of life. Probably the greatest benefit of astrology to parenting is what it can teach you about yourself.
