St Johns Wort and Depression

by Mireille Gautschi / Flower Essence Therapist and Herbalist
The bright yellow flower of the St Johns Wort (hypericum perforatum) with its ray-like petals, represents the power of the sun that forces away the darkness. This already points to the anti-depressant effects of the St Johns Wort which are highly respected, even in conventional medicine. St. John's Wort, a perennial plant, has been used for hundreds of years to treat depression, unrest and anxiety disorders as well as nerve pain. For a long time, doctors and herbalists alike have known about its use as a sedative, but also as treatment for wounds, burns, insect bites, stomach ulcers and more. It is still used widely today and its effectiveness has been proven to a point where some insurance companies are now covering the treatment. It is not a powerful drug when used to treat depression in the sense of bringing a quick recovery, but shows excellent long term results in many patients. The herb assists body and soul in the healing process and helps to build a solid foundation for a complete recovery.

How To Clear Anxiety, Sadness or Anger In 60 Seconds Or Less

by Oshana Himot, MBA / Life Coach and Reiki Master
How often do you wish that you could feel happy, productive and positive when you are feeling angry, anxious or sad? The good news is that you can and in a minute or less! I have found that one of the keys to changing our emotions is to clear the judgment we have about having these feelings in the first place. We may be using our anger to cover up disappointment, sadness and hurt. Underneath these may be the fear of being abandoned or alone. When we trace any emotion to its core, we find there is a fear of something happening in our lives that we don't want to happen. These fears are often created by experiences we have had. We cover up the fear often because we do not have the skills to deal with it in a constructive way. Until we face our core fear or fears, we will always be running away from them and compensating for them with behavior which is not authentic or fulfilling. The key to the exercises illustrated in this article is the heart. The energy of the heart is love, which is more powerful than any other emotion in our lives. Use these exercises for any emotion you are having ... anger, sadness, anxiety, or any other feeling which is not what you want to be feeling. Love heals all fear.

Kundalini Awakening: Transforming Experience and Consciousness

by Swami Khecaranatha / Kundalini Yoga Teacher
Kundalini is the energy of life, or the divine, as it is experienced in the individual. It is the energy and power of consciousness, the vital force that gives life to the universe. We are not separate from or different from that source. Kundalini is represented as a "coiled serpent" in the chakra at the base of the spine. In order to activate the rising of the Kundalini we must deeply open our hearts, inviting higher energies into our psychic mechanism. Gradually, we develop a conscious flow of spiritual forces within. Flow is at once the breath, the underlying energy of that breath, and the emergent resonance we feel when all of the chakras are opened and the spiritual energies within them are released to resonate with the descending spiritual forces. Flow is energy in motion when we are completely open. When sound moves through the atmosphere it does so on energy that is projected ahead of it, creating the pathway on which the sound travels. In the same way, flow is about purifying the psychic channels within us for the Kundalini to rise. It is the energetic highway that our awareness travels on. By tuning into that flow and consciously bringing it down to the base of the spine, we begin to awaken the highest aspect of Kundalini, facilitating its rise towards the top of the head. That energy moves up through our subtle body, piercing the chakras and Granthi - the binding gnarls that are the three major psychic knots within us. These knots are crystallized contractions - conjunctions of lifetimes of tension, pattern, psychic trauma and ego. They coalesce around the chakras in the base of the spine, the heart, and the center of the head, blinding us to the intrinsic consciousness within.

Herbal Allies For Post-Menopausal Women

by Susun S. Weed / Author and voice of the Wise Woman Way
My favorite herbs for postmenopausal women are horsetail, oatstraw, red clover, stinging nettle, seaweeds, and the plants rich in flavonoids. These gentle green allies are more like foods than drugs; they offer bone-creating, heart-protecting, disease-preventing, sex-enhancing optimum nourishment to the woman in the second half of her life. Horsetail is particularly rich in glycosides which nourish hormones, heart, and bones, making it a special ally for post-menopausal women. Mineral-rich horsetail feeds the bones, increasing mass and flexibility. No matter how old or thin, bones respond to consistent use of horsetail. Oatstraw is the grass of the very same oats you eat for breakfast. Best known as a cholesterol-lowering food, oats is also a special ally to women who wish they wouldn't "fly off the handle" so easily, to women who want to be sexy old ladies, and to women who treasure their bones. Seaweeds contain lavish amounts of every mineral needed to create and maintain solid bone mass. Kelp is an exceptionally rich source. Seaweeds are superb sources of the nutrients most needed by the endocrine, circulatory, and immune systems. Regular use helps maintain adequate production of all hormones, especially thyroid hormones. Lavish use may reverse hypothyroidism.

The Law of Gratitude

by Amirah / Intuitive Consultant, Healer and Lecturer
Gratitude is a natural high. When you live in tandem with your spirit, appreciating all of life and what you have, you discover more joy and kindness in the world. The more you give, the more you will receive. The more you assist others, the more you will assist yourself. Anger and fear are appropriate emotions at times, but can be harmful if they arise from our chronic patterns: judging everyone and everything, worrying about things we can't change, or the fear of never having or being enough, for example. These chronic patterns live in the past and the future, not the present. When you train yourself to stop, identify and be fully present to even one thing you are truly grateful for, you are brought back to the present moment — where true peace and power lie. Gratitude makes you feel good right here and now for all that you are and all that you have. Your anger and fear disappear when you are genuinely thankful. An attitude of gratitude brings you peace and overflows to those around you. This circle of peace grows and you return to your natural state of joy, love and peace, knowing you are whole and complete just as you are.

REVIEW OF THE WEEK

The reality of our times is that negativity greatly outweighs positivity. In "Victory Through Vaastu", a new book by Sri Sai Kaleshwara Swami-one of India's most highly respected living saints-the author says the misalignment of buildings plays a huge factor in this. Most of the world is simply built wrong...and it's killing us, literally. "Victory Through Vaastu" shows how to use "the divine energetics of nature" to structure substantive change in the 'real' world. This is not another indecipherable mystic tome wrapped in pastel earth tones, floral landscaping and interior design tips. It is a practical, step-by-step eye-opener to the influences, both good and bad, that the defined spaces - our homes, offices and properties - have on our lives. As esoteric (and academic) as the topic may initially seem, the book's 288 pages are a quick, easy and surprisingly informative read. Included with over 140 color photographs and illustrations are personal experiences and case studies, which justify the book's premise: the knowledge of Vaastu changes the way we live our lives. Instead of being victims of circumstance, we can be sublime masters of them.

Unity North Atlanta Church, 4255 Sandy Plains Rd, Marietta, GA (Near Atlanta)
Brent Atwater is a documented medical intuitive, healer and renowned artist, whose artwork was the subject of a 30 minute PBS documentary. Before exposure to the Gallery of Paintings That Heal, guests will have their energy patterns individually documented by one of the scientific and or spiritual methodologies of GVD Aura Camera or the HeartMath system. After viewing the Gallery of Paintings, each person will be reevaluated by the methods above for any changes that have occurred, and then be given a package of their energy results. Afternoon guests may return (gratis) during the evening show to examine any paintings of particular interest, and to talk with the assessors at a leisurely pace. Both art shows will be interactive experiences.
