Trance Dance - From Darkness Into Enlightenment

Trance Dance employs traditional approaches to healing along with some unique contemporary techniques. One of the most powerful of these contemporary tools is the use of a blindfold or bandanna. In more ancient times trance dance rituals were done primarily at night because darkness was a necessary context for participants to focus on their inner experience or visions. Darkness creates a state of suspension or stopping time, an altered state or trance state where there is no one but one's self. It is within this inner journey that we connect with spirit and the truths it reveals. The bandanna therefore becomes a spiritual tool allowing each participant to block out all distraction and to become a witness to the richness of his or her own experience. Trance Dance's primary focus is on healing our relationship with ourselves and spirit. By dancing within the seclusion of darkness we discover parallel realities where solutions to seemingly unsolvable problems are possible. Through Trance Dance we disappear, become more like our spirit, and simultaneously less attached to our difficulties, making it possible at these moments to let these problems go - we utilize the body as a vehicle to set the momentum in motion. We can call Trance Dance 'Meditation in Motion'. It is not uncommon that spontaneous healing occurs during and after a Trance Dance session.

What if there was a system of medicine which more truly complemented the insights of the depth psychologists? What if we could put an archetype in a bottle, so to speak, so that insight and self-recognition could develop from simply taking a pill? What if, after unearthing a deep, core dilemma experienced by a patient, a therapist could give the patient a medicine that actually helped him or her resolve that dilemma, that core conflict, deep within his cells? We all know and recognize the split between head and heart when we see it. A patient - perhaps it’s you! - can explain with astonishing sophistication how he came to be the way he is. Does such an understanding necessarily bring freedom? Not when it stays in the head! Not when the feeling is deep within the cells. And this is the case, I assert, with us all. A truly holistic medicine would not act by manipulation of brain chemistry to suppress end-stage symptoms of clinical syndromes, but would rather reflect back to the patient an image which resonated with his or her own particular way of becoming off-balance, thereby helping the individual return to a place of psychological equilibrium.. This kind of medicine does exactly what a good therapist does: reflect back to the patient an image that is truthful in its correspondence to her deepest feelings and dilemmas.

Trance, Visions and Out of Body Experiences

Socrates, the great philosopher, was known for entering spontaneous cataleptic trances, in which, as he had once explained, he was absorbed by "contemplation of his inner psyche." Psychoanalysts use an umbrella term for this phenomenon and that is called Altered States of Consciouness, and the occurrence is sometimes equated with self-hypnosis. Trance is another term used for this phenomenon and is said to be experienced often by people of high spiritual elevation, who leave their bodies for a moment and enter a different realm altogether. Indian yogis, hermits and people who have established a command over their subconscious and developed high levels of concentration have been heard of entering trance from time to time. People who make prophecies are also said to be doing so during the phases when they enter trance. Trance leads to a condition of altered conscousness which is accompanied by an absence of awareness of physical surroundings. When a man is in trance, you see him there, but in reality he is not. It is just the presence of a body you feel, which has entered into an altered conscouness that you don't. This is what happens in samadhi, in which whole of the body consciousness is lost. Samadhi is the state of true yoga, in which the meditator and the object of meditation are one. During samadhi all energies from various chakras of the body are drawn up the spine into the sahasrara chakra, which lies at the crown of the head.

Tantra is a spiritual tradition that originated in India some 4,000 years ago. It is a way of life that celebrates and strives for the union of body, mind and spirit. Tantra is a form of yoga. Yoga means union. The ultimate purpose of Tantra is a union of lovers, and union with the divine, with God. In the Tantric tradition, sexuality and spirituality are joined. Lovers actually invite God right into their bed! Many cultures have a variation of this challenging and delightful practice, for example, the Taoists in China and the Cheyenne in North America. There are differences in these practices, but all forms of sacred sexuality have in common the intentional cultivation and use of sexual energy for spiritual growth, healing, creativity and enhanced pleasure. The concepts of Tantra were first introduced to the west in the 1800s by British scholars and travelers to India. A Tantric revival by gurus and teachers in the ashrams of India during the late 1960s has led to a gradual popularization of these practices in Europe and North America. Recent testimonials by celebrity musicians and movie stars like Sting, Woody Harrelson and Tom Hanks, and mentions in movies such as "Go" and "Bliss" have promoted it almost to fad level. Now Tantra is becoming the sexual learning of choice for North Americans who want to have it all: a passionate sex life, a healthy body, and spiritual growth.

How can Feng Shui help you in your fertility quest? One way to increase your odds of adding to your family is by refraining from disturbing the energy in your home. When trying to conceive, avoid any remodeling, major or minor, in or around your home. Try to keep your home as calm as possible. And don't agitate the energy around your bed. Don't sweep or dust around or under your bed during conception attempts and pregnancy. A dusty bedroom could just equal a baby in your future! Keep the area under your bed clear and clutter free. In Feng Shui it is always recommended that the area under the bed be clear so energy can circulate under you while you sleep, this is even more important when trying to conceive and while pregnant. Another way to pump up your fertility is by getting an elephant. No, not a real one! A representation of an elephant. Elephants have been considered a fertility symbol for thousands of years. Place a lovely elephant figurine in your bedroom. Rub your elephant to bring more children into your family. Some other items to add to your bedroom (or wear as jewelry) include Rose Quartz Crystals and Kwan Yin (Goddess of Compassion) statues. Both are known to increase fertility. And Kwan Yin will come in handy after you have your baby, because she guards the souls of children. Prolific bunny rabbits are excellent symbols of fertility.
