Description

Ana teaches the art and science of Yoga in the tradition of Patanjali. True yoga practice is always appropriate to the present circumstances of the person practicing. It is excellent for stress reduction, rejuvenation, and strengthening of the whole body and calming and focusing to the mind. One can apply the eight limbs of yoga according to personal needs, or choose to work with only one or two limbs. We can use yoga to help ourselves in many areas of our lives. Regular, frequent practice of yoga enhances and promotes the body's natural process of healing. As we learn to use yoga's breathing methods, we help the mind and the body to work harmoniously, as nature intended, and allow healing to happen. Movement, postures, breathing technique, chanting and other systems are all employed in a way that is appropriate for the individual. Ana's classes in the Lawrence and Manhattan, KS area are limited in size, so students can enjoy more personal attention. Instruction is available for all levels, including pregnancy, and post-partum and other special needs. Ana aims to inspire as many as possible to create their own regular yoga practice, thereby finding harmony for themselves and becoming promoters of a happy, healthy, peaceful world. Private lessons are available in addition to regular class time, and are recommended for those with special considerations or medical conditions. Those with medical conditiions are asked to check with their physician before attending classes.

Philosophy and Comments

Health is more than lack of disease. When we are healthy we are loving, kind, joyful and full of vibrant energy. The Practice of yoga helps us to be more aware of our unconcious habits of body and mind. With this awareness of ourselves it becomes much easier to make the changes we desire in all areas of our lives.

"If the day and night are such that you greet them with joy,

And life emits a fragrance like flowers and sweet scented herbs,

Is more elastic, more starry, more immortal,

- that is your success! -

All nature is your congratulations,

and you have reason, momentarily, to Bless yourSelf."

Henry David Thoreau

Yoga Therapy Monday at 7:15 pm

This class will concentrate on what can be done in your yoga practice to address specific individual difficulties such as injuries or structural concerns. It will also address the need for stress reduction, of course, as that is the basic underlying difficulty we all have to deal with.

The Challenge: Tuesday at 5:30pm

This class requires permission from Ana and is for experienced students who are practicing yoga or some form of daily practice. We will work on refining our use of postures and breathing.

Beginning Yoga, Thursdays at 5:45 pm

In this class we will be looking at transformation on many different levels, and how yoga is the perfect practice for making lasting changes in your life and your health. We will discuss each person's desired outcome and learn together how to apply yoga to our individual needs.

Mindful Yoga:

This is also labelled as "Pranayama", or energy enhancing. We will be using asana, as well as pranayama, with more focus on pranayama than in the other classes. It is not recommended for those who have breathing difficulty, as it is better for them to take the beginner classes or even some private lessons first.
