Philosophy and Comments

As human beings, we sometimes condition ourselves to ignore our own needs. We may neglect doing things that we know are good for us, such as: proper exercise, healthy eating, or making uncomfortable decisions. Each of us is responsible for all of our experiences. Every thought we think is creating our future. When we really love ourselves, our lives work. To accomplish this, we must release anger, resentment and blame from the past and forgive everyone. How we deal with the future depends on how well we deal with the past. We are responsible for the choices we make in life, and our choices are based upon our perceptions. If we have erroneous perceptions, we make misguided choices. I help my clients learn how they can change their erroneous perceptions into healthier ones, so they may make wiser choices.

I only accept in my practice clients who have the capacity to resolve their own problems with my assistance. I believe that as people become more accepting of themselves, they are more capable of finding happiness and contentment in their lives.

My clients are in complete control and may end their counseling at any time. I will be supportive of that decision. When counseling is successful, they should feel better equipped to face life's challenges without my support or intervention.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is an effective and speedy means of working with the mind. It makes use of the natural techniques of hypnosis to gain swift access to deeply rooted anxieties and problems. Hypnosis is completely safe and will not work without the consent and total cooperation of the person being hypnotized.Hypnotherapy is a process of communication between the patient and the therapist. Hypnosis constitutes the core of the treatment. Hypnosis is defined as a state of focus - a focus of ideas and suggestions. The only way to change a behavior is to first be aware of it. Once an idea is accepted by the subconscious mind, it stays there until another one replaces it. Hypnosis uses positive suggestions to put another thought in its place - permanently. Hypnosis may be used to quit smoking, lose weight, eliminate fears, phobias, and depression, or address issues of self esteem.

Art Therapy

Art is the symbolic language through which the heart speaks. It is the soul’s voice and the key to transformation, joy and peace. Art therapy is based on the belief that the creative process involved in the making of art is healing and life-enhancing.

The creative modalities are now being recognized as important instruments for therapeutic communication. Through these modalities, people can experiment with new ideas, express feelings, experience fantasies, and resolve fears. Art Therapy offers an opportunity to explore personal problems and potentials through verbal and nonverbal expression. Therapy through art recognizes art processes, forms, content, and associations as reflections of an individual’s development, abilities, personality, interests, and concerns. The use of art as therapy implies that the creative process can be a means both of reconciling emotional conflicts and of fostering self-awareness and personal growth. The subconscious mind directs the healing process through the drawing’s focal points. That is, what our attention focuses on in a drawing. It is through such drawing that the therapist can utilize the use of symbols as a healing agent. If drawings are direct communications from the subconscious mind then they cannot be as easily camouflaged as can verbal communications.

Art*Works! is a therapeutic workshop designed to promote personal awareness and growth through the creation of themed projects.

Animal Assisted Therapy

Meet Gizmo, a 9 year old male Pekingese Therapy Dog. Therapy Dogs work with health-care professionals as part of a treatment plan. Animal Assisted Therapy is designed to promote improvement in physical, social, emotional, and/or cognitive functioning.

Animal-assisted psychotherapy incorporates animals into the psychotherapeutic treatment of people. Having an animal present in the therapy process provides the client with a sense of comfort not equaled in traditional therapy.

The use of animals in therapy is founded on the animal's sense for supplying the client’s need for cuddling, companionship and unconditional acceptance.

Even an angry, hurting child learns quickly to be gentle with an animal that eagerly demonstrates a desire "to be friends."

Having an animal to hold, hug, and touch can make a world of difference to someone who would otherwise have no positive physical contact.
