Description

Hands-On Health offers an integrated approach to physical fitness that engages the mind and focuses on building a healthy, injury-free body. Our therapeutic massage, classic Pilates, personal fitness training and wellness coaching services are of the highest quality, with programs for strength & conditioning, flexibility, rehabilitation, nutrition & weight management, stress management, and overall health & well-being. The result is a strong, balanced body, with an enhanced mind-body connection.

Hands-On Health provides a supportive environment for individuals at all levels of fitness. It is a place to get away from it all and make your life more relaxed, healthful, and connected; an environment that will have you feeling better about yourself and your world.

Profile and Credentials

Owner/Director Joy George-Bryden, M.S. is an Ace-Certified Exercise Specialist and a Personal Trainer, Certified by the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. She is a Certified Instructor in the Authentic Pilates™ Method and a PMA Gold-Certified Pilates Teacher, a Certified Nutrition Specialist, and a Licensed Personal & Corporate Wellness Coach. A former professional dancer and NIKE-sponsored fitness spokesperson, with over twenty years' experience in the health and fitness industry, her background includes extensive training in exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, post-rehab fitness, nutrition and stress management, as well as practical experience in health club, sports medicine, physical therapy and hospital settings.

Joy is a Licensed Massage Therapist and Reflexologist, Certified in Orthopedic Massage and Certified by the National Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Her work incorporates techniques from her training in orthopedic massage, sports massage, myofascial release, trigger point & deep tissue therapy, Swedish massage, reflexology, shiatsu and Thai massage.

Joy completed her graduate work in health psychology and holistic studies after receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting. Her professional memberships include the American College of Sports Medicine, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the Pilates Method Alliance™ the Pilates Coalition, Wellcoaches®, the American Psychological Association/Health Psychology Division, and the American Massage Therapy Association. For relaxation, Joy spends time in her home studio producing oil paintings and drawings, primarily studies of the human figure and the body in motion.

Hands-On Health is a member of the Dennis Chamber of Commerce, The Pilates Method Alliance, and the IDEA Health & Fitness Association; and a provider for the American Specialty Health Network.

Pilates Instruction

Hands-On Health is Cape Cod’s premier Pilates studio. We are the Cape’s only fully-equipped, classical Pilates studio, providing beginner, intermediate and advanced instruction in the True Pilates system, including mat, reformer/tower, cadillac (trapeze table) wunda chair, high chair, ladder barrel, ped-i-pull, small barrels and other Pilates apparatus. Training is offered through private and semi-private sessions and class format. Mat classes are offered for all levels. Small group classes on reformer/tower and mat/tower are scheduled throughout the week – often incorporating work on the wunda chair and barrels. Classes are offered in pre-paid, eight-week sessions, with drop-ins as available.

Personal Fitness Training

Hands-On Health personal training is tailored to the body's natural movements and to the way an individual uses their body every day -- conditioning your body to improve and excel in your activities of daily living, as well as your chosen fitness and leisure activities, through programs that meet your individual needs for:

  • Wellness Coaching and Nutritional Counseling

    One-on-one coaching has been shown to be among the most effective approaches to helping people make and sustain improvements in their lives. A coach enables change by focusing on your personal vision, values, and needs. Coaches provide instruction and mentoring, spark insight, and facilitate a client's self-discovery process. A wellness coach is focused on delivering lasting health, fitness and wellness behavioral changes - helping you to find motivation, develop a workable plan, and overcome obstacles along the way. Having a wellness coach is particularly powerful when you have decided to fully commit to making significant changes in one or more areas of your health.

    Wellcoaches® are health and fitness professionals who have completed a rigorous training program through partnership with the American College of Sports Medicine. Supported by a Board of Medical Advisors, they are highly qualified to help you meet your goals in the areas of fitness, weight, nutrition, stress, health, and life issues that affect wellness.

    Nutritional Counseling

    Hands-On Health offers services to help you achieve a healthy diet and body weight/body composition. To ensure a client is meeting his/her nutritional requirements, programs evaluate current eating behaviors, nutritional intake, exercise and stress levels, and personalize recommendations for healthy lifestyle modifications. Nutritional counseling programs are supported by a registered dietitian and sports nutritionist.
