Reiki is an ancient hands-on healing art, which was rediscovered in Japan in the early 1920's. This healing art was known and utilized in Tibet and China long before its resurgence under its current Japanese name. It uses the life force energy you may have heard called “Chi, Qi, Prana, or Ki” “The Chinese believe that all things have Chi, are Chi. If life is movement then Chi is what makes things move. The ability to increase or decrease this energy is the basis for healing” –Fred Gallo.
There are many types of REIKI and/or similar energy based healing systems found around the world. Each system redirects energy from the healer into a patient to help them become more balanced and cleansed. This act of balancing the energy can stabilize a patient and allow the natural healing processes to take place. It is a non- invasive, viable adjunctive therapy you can use in the modern clinician’s office.
Usual transmissions of Reiki energy were originally believed to be limited by physical proximity. The Reiki practitioner would place their hands on, or a few inches above the patient’s body. After much study into the potential of Reiki, it was discovered that long distance "sending" of the energy to a recipient has proven to be just as beneficial as a "hands-on" session. Many other healing modalities manipulate "chi" or life energy. Examples you would know of include martial arts, acupuncture, acupressure, massage and therapeutic touch." Reiki is different in that it is extremely focused and need not be guided by any special effort or by entering into an altered state. The energy destination is intelligence or self-directed.
Reiki energy works at the level of quantum physics. Based on the “Observer effect” the Reiki healer, or modern day shaman can effect change (healing) in a localized reality (the patient) through the super-conscious mind (spirit helpers or the Divine) working at the quantum level. This is achieved through intent, focused on a singular objective. Reiki energy cannot be forced because an individual simply will not take in what it does not want or need.
The recipient of Reiki need not study, understand or completely believe in its power. The energy will go where attention is directed. Some may or may not feel it working. Most people describe a sense of warmth, and peacefulness. In a hands-on session, the patient may describe intense heat or cool sensations coming from the healer’s hands. There is no actual danger of misuse or abuse of the energy. The only prerequisite is that the recipient, on some level, really wants to heal. The whole episode becomes a wish-fulfillment ritual (prayer), charged by positive energy waves, which affect the probability of the outcome (healing). The positive effects of Reiki energy can be very quick and dramatic as in the reduction or elimination of pain, or, take more time to be noticed such as a lessened response to anxiety or a gradual increase in mobility. “It is the observation that the disease is gone that brings about the needed change in reality that causes the quantum-level probability wave to collapse in favor of the patient.”-William Lyon
