The Pilates Studio

Description

The Pilates method of conditioning was developed in the early 1900's by German-born Joseph Pilates, and introduced to the American dance world when he immigrated to New York in 1923.

The work consists of specific exercises carefully performed on a mat or specially designed apparatus. The resistance-based training creates lengthened, flexible muscles that are toned and not bulky. The focus of the work is on strengthening the deep abdominals and muscles of the low back to obtain and maintain optimal posture, while the practice of conscious breathing integrates the mind and body as a whole.

The Pilates method is appropriatefor everyone, with modifications made for injury, pregnancy, sports training, and individual goals.

Profile and Credentials

Jessi Herr came to Pilates in 1999 in Seattle, Wa. Having participated in several sports and dance classes, nothing had ever given her the satisfaction and the empowerment that Pilates does. Pilates was especially important to Jessi after the birth of her first child.

In 2003 Jessi completed a 9-month Pilates Teacher Certification program at Mind & Body Studio, in Seattle.
Jessi is certified in the Mat work, as well as on the apparatus such as the Universal Reformer, Wunda Chair, Trapeze Table, Step Ladder Barrel, and Magic Circle.
Jessi specializes in--but is not limited to--Prenatal & Postnatal training. She is available for private, semi-private, and group instruction.
Jessi is a member of the Pilates Method Alliance whose mission is to establish and maintain education standards for Pilates Professionals.

Philosophy and Comments

There are many different options for practicing Pilates. Jessi believes it is important to address each person individually, which allows her to develop programs that meet unique and specific needs, and allows you to gain competency and confidence in the fundamental principals of Pilates.

Pilates is appropriate for everyone--people of all ages and fitness levels are welcome.
